Late summer is here, and with it comes announcement season. We finally get to see what new models GMC, Chevy and Buick have for us in 2016, and the wait has definitely been worth it. One of the vehicles that has a big chunk of our attention is the 2016 GMC Canyon diesel. We’re going to take a closer look at the specs and highlights of this new model, as well as the 2016 GMC Canyon diesel release date.
2016 GMC Canyon diesel highlights
The GMC Canyon has long been an excellent truck, and the addition of a diesel engine promises to only improve fuel efficiency and make an already fantastic vehicle better. The new 2.8L Duramax diesel engine featured in SLE and SLT Crew Cab models promises to deliver on horsepower while also being the cleanest diesel truck engine ever for a GM vehicle. Representatives of GM have said that the long-term plan has always been to make the Canyon available with a diesel engine, and now that time has arrived. Completely designed for trucks, this new Duramax engine smoothly fits into the Canyon frame.
Other highlights of the 2016 GMC Canyon diesel:
- Smart diesel exhaust braking, previously seen on the 2015 Sierra HD, helping to maintain an even speed on downhill stretches while using cruise control
- Integrated trailer brake control, which will be standard and exclusive on diesel models
- Reduced powertrain noise and vibration thanks to the Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber which through the torque converter
