GMC Yukon Wins a 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Honour

Dependability is a top need for families. Not only do family haulers need the space and power to get parents and kids everywhere they need to go, but having a vehicle with minimal needs for service is important. Fortunately there is the GMC Yukon. This vehicle recently won the 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability award in the full-size SUV segment, pushing the GMC brand as a whole into fifth place overall.

J.D. Power Dependability Study Criteria

GMC Named Most Refined Brand by Kelley Blue BookThe J.D. Power Dependability study looks at three-year-old vehicles and evaluates them over 12 months. They are judged how every piece of the vehicle functions by looking at repair visits and maintenance needs in multiple areas. The study looks at aspects of the whole vehicle such as features and control functions; engine, transmission and other mechanical pieces; climate controls and effectiveness; entertainment and navigation systems; and handling and driving, just to name a few.

For this study, the 2013 GMC Yukon was put through its paces and performed admirably. The GMC Yukon wins a 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability honour for having the fewest mechanical issues in its class. This full-size SUV also took above average reviews on the quality of its powertrain and the accessibility and usefulness of its features. That means that families enjoying a Yukon were able to take full advantage of interactive and user-friendly infotainment features like rear entertainment screens and a responsive infotainment system.

What Makes the GMC Yukon Great for Families?

With room for up to eight passengers and power for towing a boat or trailer besides, the 2013 GMC Yukon offers reliable, dependable power the family can take anywhere. This is the second year that the GMC Yukon has received the J.D. Power Dependability Award, and we anticipate that it will continue to hold a top pace in its class into the future. New SUV shoppers looking at the current 2016 GMC Yukon will be able to enjoy that same dependability.

Other General Motors brands also shone in the 2016 J.D. Power study. Four Chevy models received segment awards, and the Buick Verano was named the most dependable vehicle in this study. To learn more about the GMC Yukon or GMC dependability, feel free to stop by Craig Dunn Motor City today.

How Do I Set Up RemoteLink?

The RemoteLink Key Fob system from OnStar available in Chevy, Buick and GMC vehicles can do some pretty neat things (you can learn more about what in our post on the subject) but now it’s time to get real. This is a pretty neat device but how can you set up RemoteLink? We have some step by step instructions, and a neat video on some of the cool things you can do with this system.

How Do I Set Up RemoteLink?

First of all, make sure that your vehicle and phone are compatible with the RemoteLink system. Most 2015 and 2016 Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles have this capability. Apple, Android, Blackberry and Windows phones are compatible, depending on the operating system.

Read More: Best Features of the 2016 Chevy MalibuSecond, if you are not yet registered at OnStar.com with a username and password, you will have to set that up (remember, some of these services may only be included with an internet plan, and others may not be available in some regions). You can set up your OnStar username and password here, on the top where it says “Sign Up” (you can also find a complete list of compatible cars and phones on that page).

What can you do with OnStar RemoteLink? Check out this video!

Next, download the RemoteLink App. It is available on iTunes, Google Play, Blackberry App World or the Windows app store. Be sure to have your username and password ready to go.

Once it is downloaded, you will launch the app and enter your onstar.com username and password. You will also have to enter your OnStar account number and zip code. This can be emailed to you if you don’t remember it.

In the last step you will be encouraged to create a new username and password just for RemoteLink, and then you should be good to go with your new smartphone-to-car connection!

GM Canada committed to producing more Chevy Equinoxes

Chevy Equinox in Canada

Chevy Equinox in Canada

We have great news for folks looking to invest in high-quality, Canada-made Chevy vehicles! GM Canada has just made the commitment to increase production of the Chevy Equinox in Canada at the Oshawa Assembly plant in Ontario. This move is at least partially motivated by the need to meet high demand for this practical but stylish crossover SUV. Keep reading for more details.

The Oshawa Car Assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario has been producing Chevy vehicles since 1919, and currently it produces the Chevy Equinox, Chevy Camaro, and the previous and current generation of Chevy Impala, as well as the Buick Regal sport sedan. Since 1999 the facility has even won several (or, to be exactly, nineteen!) J. D. Powers awards for producing quality vehicles. This tradition of Canadian excellence is slated to continue, with GM Canada earmarking C$12 million to be invested in enabling the Oshawa Assembly to produce even more high-quality vehicles, especially the extremely popular Chevy Equinox.

Chevy Equinox in transit from Ingersoll to Oshawa

The spacious and well-equipped Chevy Equinox has been so popular across north America that this has not been the first time steps have been taken to produce more of them. In 2010, GM started the one-of-a-kind Equinox Shuttle program that allows vehicle bodies produced at the CAMI Body Shop in Ingersoll to receive final assembly at Oshawa.

What’s next for the Oshawa Assembly? In the future we may be looking at the next breakthrough in green technology coming out of Oshawa, or maybe just the guarantee that high quality Canadian vehicles will continue rolling off the assembly line and to dealerships near you! Check out the current Craig Dunn inventory of all new GM vehicles today or schedule a test drive today!

These features include:

  • LED “C-Shaped” signature daytime running lights

  • New front fascia and grilles for each trim level
  • New LED fog lamps

UPDATE>>Check out the 2016 GMC Sierra Elevation Edition!

GMC also released a 90 second video (below) that gives an upclose look at the GMC Sierra and its trim level options. The video shows the new Sierra at the GMC testing facility in Milford, Michigan. It shows the 2016 GMC Sierra Denali, 2016 GMC Sierra SLT and 2016 GMC Sierra All-Terrain. This exciting video shows a detailed look at the new front fascia and grilles for each vehicle.

Even though there isn’t much information about this new model just yet, these images and little details have really added to our excitement! The 2016 GMC Sierra will be available in the fourth quarter of this year and we will have more information and details as the release date gets closer. GM Vehicles Recognized by J.D. Power

GM Brands Recognized in J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study

Recently, GM vehicles have been recognized for its impressive lineup of vehicles. This company has been working hard to provide reliable, affordable and safe vehicles with great performance capabilities. GM is being recognized once again, this time by J.D Power. For the first time, Chevy, Buick, GMC and Cadillac are all ranked in the top 10 among brands in the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study. This is an exciting honor to add to GM’s already extensive list of awards.

J.D. Power has a variety of researchers, analysts, experts and executives who provide data and commentary on industry trends, research and more. The J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study examines problems experienced during the past year by original owners of models from 2012. The overall dependability rating is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles. These rankings are reliable and influential in the automotive world, which is why this recognition is so exciting for GM brands.

jdpower2

Dependability is a top priority for most when purchasing a new vehicle. You don’t want a car that will constantly have problems or need big repairs before its even paid off. That’s why these tests and evaluations are important for everyday drivers. The 2015 study tracked a variety of vehicles but were particularly impressive with the dependability of the Chevy Malibu, Chevy Camaro, GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado, just to name a few. 13 GM models were placed in the top 3 of their segments. To see the full list, visit the J.D. Power website.

Those interested in exploring these award-winning vehicles in person, are invited to schedule a test drive at Craig Dunn Motor City in the Winnipeg MB area. We have a variety of the vehicles mentioned and more! Visit your local GM dealership today!

New Back Seat Notification on the 2017 Acadia

2017 GMC Acadia Back Seat Reminder

In pursuit of the ideal family vehicle, car-makers the world over continue to add better and better features to the vehicles that they produce. Whether that is advanced trailering camera technology, or new fuel-efficient eAssist powertrain option on the 2016 GMC Sierra, these editions are designed to make life move more smoothly for families and individuals. Now, with the 2017 GMC Acadia back seat reminder feature, families can be even more sure that they are not leaving anything important behind.

What Do You Forget in Your Vehicle?

In a large vehicle like the 2017 GMC Acadia, which can fit up to seven passengers in three rows of seating, it can be unfortunately easy to leave things behind. Sometimes these are minor, like a chocolate bar that gets melted in the afternoon heat, but sometimes it can be more serious. Children left behind in cars may just become bored, but sometimes they run the risk of serious heat stroke, frostbite, or death.

With the 2017 GMC Acadia Back Seat Reminder, parents now have another set of digital eyes ready to help them keep tract of the important things. This new feature will track what doors have been opened in the course of the Acadia’s journeying, and will remind drivers to check the back seat if it seems likely that they have something there.

What Does the 2017 GMC Acadia Back Seat Reminder Look Like?

If a GMC Acadia equipped with this features senses that the rear doors were opened and closed at the beginning of a journey (like to load children or packages), the next time the 2017 Acadia is turned off after a door activation, it will show a message in the driver information center and sound a chime five times.

The 2017 GMC Acadia cannot actually detect items in the back seat, but it can help drivers remember when they may have put something there. Whether this means that fewer children are forgotten, or valuables can be safety stowed to discourage theft, this back seat reminder on the 2017 GMC Acadia is a nice addition to the host of new features and advantages already available on this great vehicle.

Midsize trucks are increasing in popularity every year. We have long been in love with the premium and versatile GMC Canyon, but now we have another reason to brag about it! This is the second time that the GMC Canyon has been named the Best Midsize Pickup Truck by Cars.com. Many of the reasons that this truck excels remain the same: it delivers top capability with premium driving.

Canyon First-Place Finishes

In the 2016 Cars.com Midsize Pickup competition, the 2016 GMC Canyon took first-place finishes for its Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR), its light construction, top payload, and max tow rating. It also received the most judges’ points of any vehicle in the competition.

Furthermore, the Canyon consistently took first or second in the majority of categories, which kept it ahead of its sister-vehicle the 2016 Chevy Colorado and the contest runner-up, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Experts appreciated the confident driving and elegant balance that the 2016 GMC Canyon brought to the road.

Other Advantages of the 2016 GMC Canyon

While the Canyon SLE package was the truck that won the Cars.com Best Midsize Truck of 2016 award, other models of the Canyon midsize truck also bring premium value to the truck ower’s life. The GMC Canyon with the optional diesel engine offers incredibly low fuel consumption numbers, and the small dimensions of this truck make it ideal for maneuvering in city environments as well as in the country and off the road.

We are proud of the current generation of the GMC Canyon on our lot, and are even more excited about new models coming out later this year, like the luxurious 2017 GMC Canyon Denali trim.

Best Family Features of the 2016 GMC Yukon

The U.S. News & World Report evaluated large SUV contenders by their safety and reliability, interior space for passengers and cargo, professional automotive reviews, and the number and quality of available family-friendly features. In each of these categories, the 2016 GMC Yukon excelled.

“The Yukon has the most family-friendly features in the class,” said Jamie Page Deaton, managing editor for U.S. News Best Cars, in a recent GM press release. “The Apple CarPlay and in-car Wi-Fi are really cutting edge, standout features. The Yukon also won because it has such a high US News score – it gets really positive reviews not only for its space and comfort, but also its performance.”

Canadian-Made Equinox and Terrain Lead Their Segments for Initial Quality

2016 Chevy Equinox Initial Quality Segment Leader

GM Canada has been active for over a century producing some of the best quality vehicles in North America. Here at Craig Dunn Motor City we are very proud of our stock of Chevy, Buick and GMC models, but we are even more excited now with the release of the J.D. Power 2016 Initial Quality Study. The 2016 Chevy Equinox and the 2016 GMC Terrain, both built right here in Canada, lead their segment. Keep reading to learn more about 2016 Chevy Equinox initial quality awards.

2016 Chevy Equinox Initial Quality Segment Leader

2016 GMC Terrain Initial Quality leader from the frontThe 2016 Chevy Equinox, which is produced at CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll and the Oshawa Assembly in Oshawa for world-wide distribution took the lead in the compact SUV segment, neck in next with its sister-vehicle the 2016 GMC Terrain. This means that, among compact sport utility vehicles, these two models experienced the fewest problems per 100 vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership. As soon as an Equinox or Terrain drives off the lot, it offers more reliability than other compact SUV models.

The J.D. Power 2016 Initial Quality Study was done by surveying more than 80,000 new car owners or lessees about their new 2016 model year vehicles.

Other Chevrolet Initial Quality Leaders

Not only did the Equinox and Terrain do extremely well in this study, but four other Chevy vehicles also lead in their segments in the J.D. Power 2016 Initial Quality Study. For the fourth year in a row, Chevy has earned more initial quality awards in this study than any other brand, which is achieved by delivering reliable performance to customers across the board.
