This year on August 20 the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad at the Woodward Dream Cruise will be on the road to come to the aid of any vehicle in distress.

Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad at the Woodward Dream Cruise

This will be the fifth year that the Chevrolet Certified Rescue Squad will be on the road for the Woodward Dream Cruise to help vehicles in distress. The trained and experienced technicians who donate their time for this event will respond if there is a breakdown of other problem. They will try to get the elegant classic vehicles back on the road. The Squad will offer service for all makes and models. Like local Chevrolet certified service departments, the Rescue Squad promises to offer fast and high-quality service for any vehicle in need.

“Classic car lovers take great care of their vehicles, but unforeseen issues can crop up, especially given the long hours of the Dream Cruise,” said Scott Williams, Chevrolet Certified Service Marketing Manager, in a recent Chevy press release. “The professional technicians from the Chevrolet Certified Service Rescue Squad look forward to keeping this year’s classics on the road, cruising.”

Like the vehicles on the road during our very own “Cruisin’ the PLAP” event in Portage La Prairie, the more-than 40,000 classic cars expected to participate in the Woodward Dream Cruise are in excellent condition, but sometimes breakdowns happen even with new vehicles. The 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 off-road optimized truck looks cool and comes with premium off-roading features, but one of the newest and most exciting features of this new model are the Multimatic DSSV dampers. Produced by Multimatic Inc. (a company based in Markham, Ontario!), these elite dampers have never been applied to an off-road vehicle before, but they promise to offer even better capability. Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve Technology

Along with front and rear electronically locking differentials, the Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve (DSSV) dampers on the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 contribute to its ability to attack the track, the trail, or the daily commute with equal aplomb. While most vehicle dampers offers deflected-disk valving,  the DSSV dampers from Multimatic Inc. offer much better precision on and off the road.

The position-sensitive DSSV dampers house two spool valves that smooth both compression and rebound damping. A third, piston-mounted spool valve can also deliver additional compression damping during intense off-roading, and the front dampers have a separate rebound valve for use in rough driving, for example over rocks.

Do Other Vehicles Have Multimatic DSSV Dampers?

Multimatic DSSV damper technology was first used in the 2014 model of the Chevy Camaro Z/28 to allow that performance vehicle to handle intense track conditions with confidence. Their use in the 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 is the first time they have been applied to an off-road optimized vehicle.

All four trim levels come standard with a high-output 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission on all trim levels. Tech-savvy drivers will be pleased to know that the 2018 Equinox is jam-packed with available technology features such as support for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio.

While we know that some fairly serious engine changes will be coming on the diesel model of the Chevy Silverado HD, alterations on the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 will be fairly minor and related to some change-ups in equipment, exterior colors, and features. New Silverado Inventory

New Features on the 2017 Chevy Silverado

A new capless fuel-fill system will be standard across the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 lineup, which will include the same body-style and all-wheel drive options as the 2016 Chevy Silverado. Other new features include a Teen Driver mode (which allows parents to place restrictions on speed and maximum sound-system volume on learning drivers), Low Speed Mitigation Braking added to other available driver awareness safety features, and Android Auto available across the board on the MyLink system.

2017 Chevy Silverado Exterior Colour Options

The 2017 Chevy Silverado will also be losing three exterior colours from 2016, and gain two new ones. Slate Grey Metallic, Tungston Metallic, and Autumn Bronze Metallic will be leaving, with Graphite Metallic and Pepperdust Metallic new for the 2017 model year. Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Black, Siren Tintcoat Red, Deep Ocean Blue Metallic, and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat will be returning.

Packages and Special Editions for the 2017 Silverado

We’re not sure what special editions will be available on the 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500. We know that a High Desert Package will be available in both the U.S. and Canadian markets, and we are hoping that the blacked-out Midnight Edition Silverado will return for another year. The High Country package will now include more advanced safety features, the IntelliBeam automatic headlights, power-adjustable pedals and a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

New Enhancements Make Chevy Vehicles Roar

This year at the Vancouver International Auto Show, we saw the Canadian debut of two small cars that are guaranteed to be game-changers. One was the all-electric 2017 Chevy Bolt. The other was the 2017 Chevy Sonic, which brings an elegant new style and top connectivity technology to the sedan and hatchback small car game. Keep reading for a few exciting powertrain and connectivity facts we’ve learned thanks to the 2017 Chevy Sonic Canadian debut.

2017 Sonic Powertrain

For 2017, the Chevy Sonic is getting a new standard 1.8-liter Ecotec engine that should deliver similar fuel economy numbers to the 2016 Chevy Sonic. Details aren’t yet available. The 138-horsepower 1.4-litre Ecotec turbo with return again as an optional engine with premium acceleration.

Advanced Safety Options

A rearview camera will now be standard on all models of the Chevy Sonic. In addition to standard safety technology like 10 standard air bags, Stabilitrack electronic stability control and antilock braking, the 2017 Chevy Sonic will be available with Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warnings, and Rear Park Assist.

Premium connectivity in the 2017 Sonic

Some of the most exciting features on the new Sonic are the comfort and connectivity features of the interior. The 2017 model will be the first in its segment to offer a power driver’s seat. Other features like keyless entry and ignition and available heated seats and steering wheel will also be available.

A seven-inch touchscreen will also be available that will have 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability. This system will also be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, meaning that enabled smartphones will be able to connect even more easily to the infotainment system of this zippy small vehicle.

With the arrival of the 2017 Bolt and 2017 Sonic, Chevy will be introducing seven new or completely redesigned vehicles for the model year. Great Value Electric Plug-in Family Vehicle

Early this year we had the pleasure of announcing the release of the 2016 Chevy Volt in Portage la Prairie. Now we are excited to reveal some information about this great value electric plug-in family vehicle. This next generation Chevy Volt offers more technology at an affordable price. The upgraded Volt will have more unique content than any previous model.

The 2016 Chevy Volt will have a starting price of $38,390, plus a $1,600 destination freight charge. The Volt will have new standard equipment including location-based charging, regen-on-demand, rear vision camera, LED low-beam headlamps, 10 airbags, heated seats, heated steering wheel and heated outside rearview mirrors. This new Volt delivers more technology, increased EV range and even more refinement.

The Volt will offer impressive driving performances. GM has estimated that the Volt is able to travel 80 km of all-electric driving range on a single charge, which is a 31-percent increase from the first-generation version. This also means that about 90 percent of trips will be driven all-electrically. It will also have a 33 litre fuel tank and an estimated combined fuel economy of 5.7 L/100km. This makes it possible for the Volt to travel further on gasoline when needed.

How Does 2017 Chevy Bolt EV One-Pedal Driving Work?

Using four different select-able modes, drivers of the 2017 Bolt EV are able to choose the optimal driving experience. When operating in Drive and simply easing off the accelerator, regenerative braking will kick in to help transfer the energy lost from deceleration into fresh battery power. Using the Regen on Demand paddle on the steering wheel can even increase this effect, and work to partially slow the vehicle without the use of the brake.

When operating in the Low driving mode, drivers can again easy off the accelerator and preserve a good amount of energy. Using the Regen on Demand paddle in this situation can greatly slow the 2017 Chevy Bolt, and even bring it to a complete stop without the use of the brake pedal (in some situations).

The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV should be able to provide up to 320 kilometers of electric range when fully charged.

Will the Chevy Bolt Come to Manitoba?

While nothing exactly like these select-able modes and one-pedal braking is available on most GM vehicles, advantages like regenerative braking have been used on models like the 2016 GMC Sierra with eAssist powertrain.

We are confident that some day the premium Chevy Bolt EV (or an even better all-electric vehicle) will be available in Manitoba and at Craig Dunn Motor City in Portage La Prairie. However, we do not yet have this vehicle available in our new car inventory. Structural Advantages of the Trax Active Concept

With a wider track, a unique lifted suspension, and 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, this concept can perform admirably in many different driving environments. It offers more ground clearance, more traction on the highway, and improved approach and departure angles. The front and rear fascia redesign and custom fender flares provide both practical driving and off-road style.

The Jet Black interior of the Trax Activ Concept features Satin Graphite accents and all-weather floor liners. The interior of this Trax concept also features the standard cargo advantages of this compact SUV, which include a flat-folding front passenger seat and a 60/40 rear folding seat that allow cargo of various sizes to be fit into the vehicle.

Chevy Equinox in Canada

We have great news for folks looking to invest in high-quality, Canada-made Chevy vehicles! GM Canada has just made the commitment to increase production of the Chevy Equinox in Canada at the Oshawa Assembly plant in Ontario. This move is at least partially motivated by the need to meet high demand for this practical but stylish crossover SUV. Keep reading for more details.

The Oshawa Car Assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario has been producing Chevy vehicles since 1919, and currently it produces the Chevy Equinox, Chevy Camaro, and the previous and current generation of Chevy Impala, as well as the Buick Regal sport sedan. Since 1999 the facility has even won several (or, to be exactly, nineteen!) J. D. Powers awards for producing quality vehicles. This tradition of Canadian excellence is slated to continue, with GM Canada earmarking C$12 million to be invested in enabling the Oshawa Assembly to produce even more high-quality vehicles, especially the extremely popular Chevy Equinox.

The spacious and well-equipped Chevy Equinox has been so popular across north America that this has not been the first time steps have been taken to produce more of them. In 2010, GM started the one-of-a-kind Equinox Shuttle program that allows vehicle bodies produced at the CAMI Body Shop in Ingersoll to receive final assembly at Oshawa.

What’s next for the Oshawa Assembly? In the future we may be looking at the next breakthrough in green technology coming out of Oshawa, or maybe just the guarantee that high quality Canadian vehicles will continue rolling off the assembly line and to dealerships near you! According to recent Chevrolet announcements, the U.S. market will be getting not only the 2017 Chevy Equinox specialty models, but also special edition 2017 Trax and 2017 Traverse models.

Chevrolet and AutoShare help students drive Chevys

While every university student has probably had the sudden desire to get away for a weekend, have a night exploring the world off-campus, or dash out for a midafternoon snack you can’t find at the local convenience store, not everyone is lucky enough to be able to take a car with them on the educational journey. But fortunately Chevrolet Canada and AutoShare, part of the Enterprise CarShare network, have formed a partnership to offer university students in Toronto access to high-quality Chevy cars at convenient and affordable rates.

Buying a new car, or even a reliable used car can sometimes be beyond the budget of a student going to university, but with this new program students at Ryerson University, York University, and the University of Toronto will be able take a new Chevy out for a spin for as little as $6 per hour (which is a whole lot less than standard rental rates). The registration rates for students will also be waived, thanks to the generosity of Chevrolet Canada.

While this program hasn’t arrived at the University of Manitoba (yet!) we’re glad to see Chevrolet Canada doing even more to help university students. Students using AutoShare in Toronto will be able to choose from the 2015 Chevy Cruze, 2015 Chevy Sonic, or 2015 Chevy Trax. Loaded with great features for connectivity and safety, these are all great vehicles for those great last-minute adventures that have nothing to do with books and everything to do with growing up.

2017 Chevy Cruze Hatch Interior Dimensions

The hatchback incarnation of the Chevy Cruze will offer the same impressive wheelbase, but changes to the rear will open up space in the back by a large margin. The Cruze Hatch will have an available 524 litres of cargo space in back, which can expand dramatically to 1,336  litres with the rear seats folded down. The 60/40 split in back also means that there are diverse cargo and passenger options.

Trim Levels on the 2017 Cruze Hatch

The standard Chevy Cruze is available in L, LS, LT, and Premier trim levels and the sport optimized RS package. The 2017 Cruze Hatch will be available in LT and Premier trims with an RS package available. The standard powertrain is a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine featuring direct injection technology and stop/start engine functions to optimize efficiency.

Each Cruze Hatch will come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity through the MyLink radio system, and be available with 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot. Some available features include heated steering wheel and seating, leather upholstery, projector-beam headlamps, a Teen Driver feature, and rear parking assistance.

2016 Chevy Spark Release Date

How far can Chevy vehicles go on empty?

Fall 2015 is going to continue being an excellent time for new vehicle releases. In addition to several other vehicle scheduled to come out soon (or that are already on the lot here at Craig Dunn) the 2016 Volt is scheduled to go on sale in Canada within the next month or so. So let’s look at some of what is going to set it apart from its electric competition and previous incarnation.

New powertrain on the 2016 Chevy Volt

The second-generation Voltec propulsion system (including the battery, drive unit, range-extending engine, and power electronics) will provide even more range and improved acceleration. The new battery system offers more overall electric capacity with fewer power cells. The range-extending 1.5-liter engine works with regular unleaded fuel, and features efficiency technology like direct fuel injection.

With this new and improved powertrain for the 2016 Chevy Volt, the vehicle has an estimated EV range of up to 80 kilometers. With the addition of the range-extending engine, the Volt has a maximum range of 676 kilometers on a single charge and tank of gas.

2016 Chevy Volt Interior Versatility

Several interior and technological changes made in response to customer demand promise to make the 2016 Chevy Volt an even more satisfying riding experience. More intuitive controls and seats for five passengers (up from the previous four seats) allow even more driving options. The 2016 Volt will also feature the standard 4G LTE Wifi capability that is becoming standard in new Chevy vehicles and will be compatible with Apple CarPlay immediately. with Android Auto available later in the 2016 model year. Owners will also be able to program their Volt to follow specific charging guidelines at home which take advantage of decreased electricity prices at certain times of the day.

New Exterior Styling 2016 Chevy Volt

In addition to a more user-friendly interior and greater range on the powertrain, the 2016 Chevy Volt also offers a new exterior styling that is sleeker, more engaging and muscular, and offers improved aerodynamic with features like active grille shutters, making and extremely economic vehicle that is also really fun to drive.

2017 Chevy Bolt release date
