Winter in Portage la Prairie can be a bit brutal at times, but we don’t mind toughing it out every now and then to ease our cabin fever. One of our favorite ways to get outside during the winter and get some exercise while we’re at it is to ice skate or play hockey at local outdoor rinks. Outdoor ice rinks near Portage la Prairie, MB
Centennial Community Club
Where: 390 1st St. NW, Portage la Prairie, MB
Distance from Portage la Prairie: N/A
The Centennial Community Club, which is also known as the BDO Centre for the Community, offers free skating periodically until February 28. You’ll want to make sure you check out the public ice skating schedule before heading out though because open skate times do vary throughout the month.
Treherne Arena
Where: 224 Vanzile St, Treherne, MB
Distance from Portage la Prairie: 66 km
For $3 per person, skaters can take the ice Fridays from 7-10 p.m., Saturdays 1-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m., and Sundays 1-4 p.m, but you’ll still want to check out Treherne Arena’s open skate schedule here before making the tip as the open skate schedule does occasionally vary from normal hours.
Langruth Skating Rink
Where: 505 Railway St, Langruth, MB
Distance from Portage la Prairie: 67 km
The Langruth Skating Park is open for public skating on Wednesdays from 5-8 p.m., Fridays from 6-8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 3-7 p.m. Day passes can be purchased for just $3 per person, but those looking for more privacy can rent the rink for $55 per hour. Click here for more information!
