Although tire pressure isn’t usually the first thing on our minds when we get behind the wheel, regularly checking your air pressure goes a long way to making your tires last. The wrong air pressure causes sluggish handling and increases wear and tear on the tires. Tires lose about one pound per square inch of pressure monthly, so we recommend checking your air pressure at least once a month. Make sure you know how filled your tires should be by consulting your owner’s manual, and keep in mind that colder temperatures often lower air pressure at a faster rate than warm weather.
2. Have your tires rotated every 5,000 miles
Tires often don’t experience wear and tear at the same rate, so receiving regular tire rotations is vital. For example, on front-wheel drive vehicles, the front tires do the grunt work so they wear out faster. On rear-wheel drive vehicles, it’s the back tires.
