Strangest driving laws in Canada

No matter where you go, you are bound to come across some bizarre laws. That’s no different when on certain Canadian roads. For example, did you know that it is illegal to pass without honking on Prince Edward Island? This law is remotely enforced, but it is the law of the land. Read on to learn about a few more road-law oddities.

Weird driving law in Ontario

In the country’s most populous province, it is perfectly legal to cross solid lines on the highway. Ontario is the only province where this is the law. With that being said, you can still be charged for crossing in an unsafe manner.

Texting at a drive-thru

Yep, in most places across the Great White North, you can be ticketed for texting while waiting at a drive-thru. That seems a bit extreme, but in accordance with every province’s laws, you cannot text while behind the wheel unless your vehicle is in park. But after you get your food from the drive-thru, feel free to chow down as you drive home! No province outlaws eating while driving.

Some of these laws driving you nuts? Here are tips for controlling your road rage.

Oddest road laws in Quebec

Quebec has a number of unique driving and vehicle-related laws, although some of them are good laws to have, such as the illegality of leaving children under 7 alone in a car (perhaps that age should even be raised a bit). However, Quebec has also banned some “creative” and convenient driving techniques like cutting through parking lots to get around a red light, and you cannot drive in the left lane unless you are passing another car.

Some laws just don’t make sense, and leaves you wondering what happened so many years ago to make legislators think of some of these rules.
