Father’s Day Gift Guide

Father’s Day Gift Guide in Portage la Prairie

Father’s Day is is right around the corner, which means it’s time to find a gift to show your dad how much you care. Depending on your dad, it can be difficult to find the perfect gift. There’s a lot of pressure to find him something he’ll love so it’s good to get a few ideas before you start shopping. Here’s a helpful father’s day gift guide in Portage la Prairie. No matter what your dad is interested in, you’ll be sure to find something on this list that will be perfect for him.

Speciality Beer
If your dad is a beer connoisseur, he might enjoy trying some one-of-a-kind brews. We suggest Ommegang Brewery’s Game of Thrones beers. They have names that tie in with the show including Iron Throne, Take the Black Stout, Fire and Blood, Valar Morghulis and Three-Eyed Raven. You could also get him a brew your own beer kit and he could get his own home brewery started.

Books
If your dad is an avid reader, some new books would make the perfect gift or if you’re really creative you could even make him some new bookmarks. There are many options to choose from depending on if your dad likes mystery novels, historical fiction, science fiction or nonfiction. As for bookmarks, you can get creative as you want with this cheap and thoughtful gift.

Coffee
If your dad drinks coffee daily, spoiler him with an expensive brand that he wouldn’t normally buy himself. Get him a pound of his favorite blend or maybe a new mug or coffee maker.

Car Accessories
Maybe your dad has a passion for automotives, then we suggest some new car accessories. You can choose from a variety of items including new floor mats, bed protector for his Chevy Silverado or maybe some merchandise from his favorite car brand. There are many options available that your dad will love.

If you really want to spoil your dad, consider buying him a new vehicle from Craig Dunn Motor City. We have a variety of great options including the 2015 GMC Sierra and 2015 Chevy Colorado. Schedule a test drive today and make this a Father’s Day your dad will never forget!

Trick-or-treating 2015 in Winnipeg

Shorter days, great harvests and colder nights are upon us and you know what that means! It’s time to start shopping for a perfect, adorable Creature from the Black Lagoon costume for your small child and start figuring out where they (and you) can go to have the most fun and get the best candy. While hitting the streets in your own neighborhood is always fun (and a great way to meet the neighbors) there are a few other options for Trick-or-Treating 2015 in Winnipeg.

Manitoba Children’s Museum Halloween HowlChild in lion outfit with caption Need more room for his costume?

On October 24 the Saturday before Halloween the Manitoba Children’s Museum Halloween Howl will have live entertainment, trick-or-treating in each of the museum’s twelve galleries, crafts, and live lizards and owls to look at and learn about. The even runs 6:00-9:00pm and costs $13 in advance or $15 at the door. Get your tickets while supplies last at the Children’s Museum website or by calling 204-924-4000.

Looking for new winter tires?

Forks Market Halloween Party

On Sunday October 25 the Forks Market Halloween Party will run from 1:00-4:00pm at the Centre Court. Kids will have the opportunity to make their own trick or treat bag, get their faces painted, grab a balloon animal, and play games.

Trick-or-treating at the mall

Malls and shopping centres like the St. Vital Centre, Kildonan Place, Grant Park, and Portage Place usually have trick-or-treating available on Halloween itself either in the afternoon or evening. Many shops will give prizes to children in costumes and there can be special evens as well. Check your preferred shopping location for exact times.

Stay Safe While Trick-or-Treating

And of course you can trick or treat right in your own neighborhood, but it’s important to stay safe as well. Children should wear bright costumes that are visible to motorists and also comfortable to walk and move in. They should always be in a group or accompanied by a trusted adult and should stay away from candles and other open flames that might be used in decorations.

We at Craig Dunn Motor City hope you have a frightfully wonderful and safe Halloween!

How to throw an American-style Super Bowl party in Canada

Even though Canada is known more for our hockey skills than our football skills, we still enjoy watching a good American football game every now and then. With the biggest football game of the year quickly approaching, our team here at Craig Dunn Motor City is giving away all of our secrets for throwing an American-style Super Bowl party!

What do I need to throw a Super Bowl Party?

Snacks

The first thing you’ll need for a successful Super Bowl party is snacks, and you’ll need a lot of them. They don’t necessarily need to be homemade though. Pizza, burgers, wings and a variety of appetizers are a good first step to throwing an American-style Super Bowl Party.

Drinks

You’ll want to make sure you have a variety of drinks available if you’re trying to throw an authentic American Super Bowl Party. Soda and water are necessities, but feel free to have your guests bring their own alcoholic beverages to save yourself some money.

Football-themed decorations

One of the most important parts of throwing a true American-style Super Bowl party is having a bunch of football-themed decorations. You’ll definitely want to be sporting a jersey, but it’s not necessary for the jersey to belong a team that’s playing in the game.

Winter Folk Fest

Portage la Prairie Winter Folk Fest

February in Canada can be pretty melancholy. If you are anything like us, we are ready for spring and for a little less snow. Even though we might be feeling blue, there are plenty of exciting events to check out to help cheer us all up. One of these events is the Portage la Prairie Winter Folk Fest. This year is the third annual Folk Fest and it just keeps getting better with more local singers and songwriters and plenty of opportunity to get in a better mood.

The Portage la Prairie Winter Folk Fest started in 2013. It provides a fun winter retreat to warm your mind, body and soul. It is in the middle of February to help get rid of those winter blues. It is held downtown at the large historic Trinity United Church in Portage la Prairie. This church provides the perfect environment because of its acoustics and welcoming feel. Even though the festival expands each year, they still make an effort to make the event feel intimate and enjoyable experience.

The festival is a non-profit organization that aims to connect local and regional folk music community. This year the Winter Folk Fest is taking place on February 8th , 2015 starting at 1:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. The children under 12 are free, students 13 and above are $15 (with academic institution ID required for students 18 and older) and adult tickets are $20. Even if folk music isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other activities to participate in. There will be snacks and refreshments available throughout the day, including chili, coffee, hot chocolate, biscotti and more.

If you need a cure for the winter blues, head on over to the Portage la Prairie Winter Folk Fest this weekend. Another great way to cheer yourself up this winter, is by buying a new vehicle from Craig Dunn Motor City. We have a variety of new GMC, Buick and Chevy vehicles for you to choose from. Get ready for spring with a brand new vehicle. Schedule a test drive today!
