Celebrating Remembrance Day 2015 near Winnipeg MB

Remembrance Day is fast approaching and with it the day when we remember all those who have died defending out country and serving to defend her today. How are you celebrating Remembrance Day 2015 near Winnipeg MB? Why do we celebrate Remembrance Day on November 11?

Canadian war memoriaAt the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we celebrate the end of World War I in 1918. Throughout the years, this day has become a way to honor our veterans and those who has given their lives in conflict since WW1 to defend our country.

What services will be held on Remembrance Day near Portage La Prairie?

A Remembrance Day service will be held at the PCU Centre in Portage La Prairie at 11 a.m. Seating will begin at 10:30 a.m., so come out early to get the seat you want. The PCU Centre main areas only will be open for the ceremony. More information here.

In Winnipeg, a Royal Winnipeg Rifles Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Vimy Ridge Memorial Park. It will be located at the memorial to the 44th Battalion of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. More information here.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train – Dec 2 and 3Bring a food pantry donation and enjoy the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train lights and performance. This 14-car train is decorated with thousands of lights and offers a great show as well. Performances are TODAY (Fri. Dec. 2) at 9 p.m. at Molson Street between Panet Road and Munroe Avenue and tomorrow (Dec. 3, 2016) in our very own Portage La Prairie at 4 p.m opposite the Centennial Area. It will also be in Brandon at 7 p.m. on Dec. 3.

Canad Inns Winter Wonderland – Dec 2 – Jan 7, 6-10 p.m.

Open daily (with the exception of Christmas Day) the Canad Inns Winter Wonderland is the largest drive-through lightshow in the area, featuring more than one million lights with multiple themed areas on a 2.5-kilometre route. Cost is $10 in advanced for one family vehicle (up to seven passengers), or $15 at the gate. Bus and van pricing is also available. Other attractions are also available on weekends.

Golf Tournament Portage la Prairie

Now that the weather is starting to get a little nicer, it’s time to spend some quality time outside with family, friends, and community members. There are plenty of activities available right here in the Portage la Prairie area. One event that we are particularly excited about is the William Glesby Centre Raise the Roof golf tournament in Portage la Prairie. This event is not only a great way to practice your golf game, but it’s also a way to help raise money for a great cause. This fundraiser golf tournament will be taking place on May 28th, 2015 at the Portage Golf Course. All proceeds will go toward the roof repair at the William Glesby Centre. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the tournament starts at noon. It costs $100 per person to golf and enjoy the banquet afterwards. This is the 14th annual William Glesby Centre Golf Tournament and they are hoping for another impressive turnout. It will be a full day of golf, an excellent meal, entertainment and prizes.

The William Glesby Centre is a charitable, nonprofit organization and they rely on grants and donations to provide entertainment to the Portage la Prairie Community. They have a variety of live performance all year long. This tournament will help allow the centre to continue bringing quality culture and art events to Portage la Prairie. Some of the upcoming events include the June Jamboree, Shrek the Musical and more.

Hiking and Biking Trails in Winnipeg

During the summer the weather is nicer and there is so much more to do. You can go camping, check out local farmers’ markets and more! If you want to spend even more time outdoors, you can also check out the many exciting hiking and biking trails in Winnipeg. Hiking and biking is not only great exercise, but it’s fun!

Winnipeg Trails Association

One way to find the perfect trail for you, is by visiting the Winnipeg Trails Association website. This organization is made up of volunteer trail builders and trail users who aim to further develop trails in Winnipeg. This association if compiled of over 40 different organizations and partners who are focused on this cause. The site has a whole list of trails with maps so you can find the right route for your adventure. One of the these trails is the Bishop Grandin Greenway Trail.

Bishop Grandin Trail East

This particular trail is the longest multi-use trail and it spans just over 12 km. The trail has asphalt surfacing, parking, washrooms and many points of interest. These points of interest include Fort Garry Bridge Park, Butterfly gardens, fruit orchard, community gardens, public art named ‘land/mark’, eco-education site, Louis Riel Sr. Route, Bois Des Esprits Trail System and Sage Creek Trail. All of these exciting sites are full of beautiful Winnipeg wilderness. This is just one of the many trails available. You could even challenge yourself to hit every trail this summer!

Portage La Prairie Area Remembrance Day Ceremonies

As the weather turns cold once again, we remember those in uniform who have given their lives to keep Canada safe. This Remembrance Day, where will you go to honour our fallen heroes? Below, we have a few places to celebrate Remembrance Day 2016 near Portage La Prairie MB, including estimated times and locations.

Portage La Prairie Remembrance Day Ceremony

a cluster of artificial poppies for Remembrance DayLast year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony in Portage La Prairie MB was held at the PCU Centre at 11 a.m. We weren’t able to find a concrete time for this year’s celebration, but we assume that it will be the same place and time on Friday, November 11, 2016. Please arrive at the PCU Centre by 10:30 a.m. so that everyone can be seated early and the ceremony can start on time.

Brandon MB Remembrance Day

The Brandon Remembrance Day Service 2016 will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Westman Place Keystone Centre. Attendees are asked to be seated by 10:20 a.m.

On Friday, November 11, the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo will also have an open house with free admission from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Adults (18+) will need to present a photo ID to enter the base. Please enter through the north gate if you are coming for Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day 2016 Events in Winnipeg MB
