Portage Potato Festival

The winter blues have set in. Leaving bed is a chore and Netflix is the closest contact you’ve had to people in the last week. Maybe it’s time to get back out into the fresh air, just for the night. It’s time to celebrate the second annual Portage Potato Festival. This event is a way to get out of the house for the night and reunite with the Portage la Prairie community. Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t have an enjoyable night out! This is the perfect chance to shake off those winter blues with music, dancing and more!

The second annual Portage Potato Festival: Cabin Fever Reliever will be taking place Saturday February 14, 2015. It is being held at the Herman Prior Centre located at 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie. The event will starts 8 p.m. and will go until 1 a.m. There will be a DJ, cash bar, silent auction and more for just $10 a ticket. Tickets can be purchased at Setsetera Studio of Design or Schapansky’s Florist. Last year, the event sold out so it’s important to get tickets as soon as possible! All the money raised goes back into the festival operating costs.

If you miss the Cabin Fever Reliever, don’t worry! There is also a summer festival to look forward to. It has taken place every August for the past 11 years. The whole idea of having different potato festivals came from a request that the city council made to the chamber of commerce. They wanted a fun community event to take place in August and then that evolved into also having one in February. Since Portage la Prairie is known for producing potatoes in the Central Plains.

If you are interested in participating in this year’s Portage Potato Festival: Cabin Fever Reliever, buy your tickets today! It is a great way to get up and enjoy yourself despite the cold weather. Another great way to get rid of the winter blues is by buying a new vehicle from Craig Dunn Motor City. We have a variety of Chevy, Buick and GMC models for local drivers to choose from. Schedule a test drive today and say goodbye to those cold weather blues.

Chevrolet Power of Play Offers Kids Opportunity To Inspire!

Chevrolet Power of Play Program in Manitoba

Hockey is one of the most beloved sports in Canada, and it has the power to teach kids the values of practice and dedication, as well as teamwork. Here at Craig Dunn Motor City, we are excited to announce that Chevrolet is launching a new program called the Power of Play to give Peewee hockey teams that are a part of Hockey Canada the resources they need to play the best hockey, and be the best athletes and people that they can be.

Each participating team will receive a coach’s kit containing a variety of materials to help our kids be better players, but also to develop values. Not every child who plays the game will grow up to play professionally, but everyone who plays the game learns the value of working together and how much hard work and a good attitude can pay off.

What is in the Power of Play Coach’s Kit

Everything in the coach’s kit is meant to encourage players as well as provide couches with the supplies they need to help their students. These kits are completely free, all teams have to do is sign up! They include:

  • Pucks, laces and stick tape – Each item will proudly bear both the Chevrolet logo and encouraging words from Canadian Gold Medal Winners
  • Most Inspirational Player Awards – These game-ready pucks comes with a case surrounded with positive qualities like “determination” and “unity”. Players should receive these award for those qualities, rather than specific skills.
  • Tape ball – Made from used tape from the National Sledge Team, National Women’s Team, and 2016 National Junior Team

Largest Tape Ball Contest

That starter tape ball is more than a cool way to have a piece of past heroes of the sport. Participating teams can add to the ball, and whichever team that creates the biggest tape ball will receive a $10,000 reward! Teams can turn in their ball between January and April 2016 at local Chevrolet dealerships like Craig Dunn Motor City. Each ball will be combined into one massive tape creation that will be displayed during next year’s World Junior Tournament in Montreal and Toronto. Just like we are all a part of the hockey community, every team will be able to participate in this contest, from the smallest tape ball to the most massive.
