How does GMC’s Lane Departure Warning System work?

GMC Lane Departure Warning System

Automakers are constantly working to make sure their vehicles are as safe as possible, and as technology gets more and more advanced, safety features can be a little tricky to understand. GMC’s Lane Departure Alert is now available on a wide variety of vehicles in the manufacturer’s lineup, so we’re breaking down how exactly this advanced safety system works. Read on for details!

GMC Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning

GMC’s Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning uses a camera sensor located on the windshield to detect lane markings on the road. The system operates while the vehicle is travelling between 37 mph and 112 mph, and it’s designed to help drivers avoid collisions while on the road. If the Lane Departure Warning System determines that the vehicle is unintentionally deviating from its lane, the driver will be warned with audio, visual and sensory cues. If the driver takes no corrective measures to stay within the lane lines, the Lane Keep Assist system may kick in and provide steering assistance to keep the vehicle in its lane.

So does this mean that every time you try to change lanes while driving, the system is going to alert you that you’re leaving your lane? Definitely not. The system recognizes that a lane change is intentional when a blinker is used.

Women Engineers for GM

Women Engineers for GM

Many people view the automotive industry as a male-dominated field. This may have been true in the past, but women are quickly making their mark on the industry. Women are making history by creating technology advances in propulsion, infotainment and vehicle-to-vehicle communication at General Motors. Change happens with one person at a time and women engineers for GM are making that change a reality.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra has said that GM will be going through more dramatic changes in the next decade than it has in the past 50 years. This prediction might come true with the help of women engineers. Three women in the company are already changing the way we drive with a variety of technological advancements. One of these women is Trista Schieffer, the lead development engineer for battery electric vehicles. She is responsible for making sure everything works together to meet customer expectations of an electric vehicle. She works with people to deliver solutions for handling, noise, vibration, comfort, storage, heating, cooling, safety, energy efficiency and more.

Another woman that works for GM is Rebecca Roth, an infotainment product owner. She helps develop software to safely integrate driver’s lives into the ride. She also helps develop software for the Smart Grid, an intelligent system that allows two-way communication between the electric company and the homeowner or their electric vehicles. Another talented GM engineer, is Jessica Moreno a program manager and V2V security credential management. Moreno and her team are working to develop vehicle-to-vehicle technology. This type of technology will soon be available for cars to essentially talk to each other and help avoid crashes and traffic jams.

These are just examples of a few of the women working for General Motors. They are making a developments and updates to technology we use or will use every day in our vehicles. If you are interested in learning more about GM as a brand or about the vehicles that they make, visit Craig Dunn Motor City in Winnipeg MB. CNG fueling port for a specialized Chevy ImpalaWhen it comes to fuel options on Chevy and GMC vehicles, drivers don’t have to stick just to traditional gasoline and diesel power. There are also several CNG (compressed natural gas) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) options on the market. These fuels offer an alternative and highly-efficient option when it comes to powering a heavy-duty vehicle. Thanks to a recently announced partnership between GM and Power Solutions International Inc., more heavy-duty pickups and full-size vans equipped with the 6.0-litre V8 will be available with the ability to burn these fuels.

These vehicles will be available in select locations within the first three months of 2017. We don’t know yet if these vehicles will be available in Manitoba at our dealership, but contact a member of our sales team to learn more about alternative fuel options at Craig Dunn Motor City.

GM Cars Capable of Using Alternative Fuels

While most vehicles that use alternative fuels are heavy-duty trucks and vans, there are also cars and SUVs available with alternative fuel options in North America (check Canadian availability separately). The Chevy Cruze is available with a B20-capable diesel engine, while the Chevy Impala is available with E85 Ethanol burning capabilities. Those seeking an SUV can take advantage of the E85-capable Chevy Equinox, Chevy Suburban, Chevy Tahoe, or GMC Terrain.

Electric vehicles from GM include the Chevy Bolt, Chevy Volt, and Chevy Malibu Hybrid.
