In Manitoba, Winter months are full of snow, slippery conditions and cold temperatures. Changing to Winter Tires can help keep you safe and save you money. Once the temperature dips below 7 degrees Celcius, it's time to switch to cold weather tires.
What are the benefits of driving with cold weather tires?
Winter tires feature deeper tread grooves than summer tires, making it easier to grip the road on ice and slippery snow surfaces. When the temperature drops below that 7 degrees, summer tires begin to lose their ability to grip and begin to harden. Winter tires are made of softer rubber and more flexible. They reduce hydroplaning on wet surfaces and assist in making steering and braking easier in winter conditions. Winter tires are safer on Manitoba roads in the winter.
Affordable Options
Craig Dunn Motor City has a wide variety of winter tire options. We are trained to assist you in finding the right tire for your vehicle, in a variety of price ranges. New Turbocharged Power Helps 2018 Equinox Go Farther on Less
There are plenty of great new features and advantages that are going to be available when the 2018 Chevy Equinox is released sometime next year, but new engine and transmission enhancements on this great compact crossover SUV are some of the most exciting features. Keep reading to learn more about the new 2018 Chevy Equinox powertrain options.
2017 GMC Acadia Powertrain and Fuel Economy
The new GMC Acadia will be available with two powertrains: a new 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine equipped with stop-start technology will be standard, while an updated 3.6-litre V6 engine offering an estimated 310 horsepower will also be available on most models.
The 2018 Chevy Equinox will see several powertrain improvements compared to the 2017 Equinox model. These include a new base engine, an upgraded optional engine, and the first (and currently only) compact SUV in North America to be available with a diesel option. All of these powertrain options are turbocharged. Check below for more details on these models.
1.5-litre Gas Turbo
The new base engine on the 2018 Chevy Equinox will be a refined 1.5 turbo. Optimized for fuel-efficiency (thanks to features like direct injection) this engine should be able to deliver a fuel-consumption rating as low as 7.6 L/100km on the highway with front-wheel drive. This engine will offer a GM-estimated 170 horsepower.
2.0-litre Gas Turbo
This four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre promises to deliver the capability of the previous year’s V6 engine, with increased fuel-efficiency. This engine will be rated for 252 horsepower and be able to trailer up to 1,585 pounds (which is a match for the 2017 Equinox with the V6). This engine will also be able to offer 8.4 L/100km on the highway.
1.6-litre Turbo-Diesel
The all-new 1.6-litre turbo-diesel on the 2018 Equinox combines the fuel-efficiency of diesel power with premium torque, power, and technology like stop-start. This engine has an estimated output of 136 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, and has a GM-estimated fuel-consumption rating of just 5.9 L/100km on the highway.

A differential, when one is talking about vehicles, is a mechanical piece of the car, truck, or SUV which allows the powered-wheels to turn at different speeds. This would be the front wheels in front-wheel-drive, the rear in rear-wheel drive, and all wheels on all-wheel drive. This is necessary because when taking turns the wheels need to go different distances, and if they both always moved at the same speed you would end up damaging your tires and possibly other mechanical parts.
While in general driving you want your wheels to be able to spin independently for comfortable turning, this can result in a loss of traction in some circumstances. If one wheel slips on ice, the differential may continue sending power to that wheel, causing it to spin, while the wheel that has not slipped may have less power.
Also if one wheel gets stuck, but the other is free (like what might happen when off-roading in mud or over rocks) then the differential might continue sending power to that wheel, making it spin wildly, while not really helping you get out of the mud.
With a locking differential (whether automatic, or activated by the driver), the powered wheels can be united. This allows drivers to have better traction, and can be extremely helpful either for getting out of mud and snow, climbing rocks on the trail, or maintaining traction in a snow storm.
While a driver shouldn’t keep their differential locked in highway driving, it can be very useful when off-roading, or in some high-performance driving situations. Some vehicles that feature locking differentials include off-road models of the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado, and the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1.

Classic Silverado colors vs. Special Silverado colors
Chevy’s Silverado is one of the best-selling pickup models in the world. And we all love to look at the unique colors a model comes in. Currently, the Silverado comes in nine different paint schemes, three of which are only available at an extra charge. Read more to get brief descriptions on each paint color.
Available colors for the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Colors available at an extra charge: Siren Red Tintcoat, Deep Ocean Blue Metallic, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
These specialized paints offer the most unique and aesthetic schemes available, with the latter only being available on Crew Cab models. Depending on where you stand on the importance of truck color, the extra charge is certainly worthwhile.
Classic colors: Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Black
Oldies are goodies. There is nothing more classic than a red pickup truck, and the Red Hot scheme is just that—hot. Silver Ice Metallic offers a more subdued look, while Summit White and Black bring a classic, monochromatic look, enough to satisfy anyone.
Red Hot
Silver Ice Metallic
Summit White
Black
New in 2017: Pepperdust Metallic, Graphite Metallic
These colors were never available prior to 2017. Pepperdust Metallic doesn’t sound like much of a color, but its closet resemblance would be pewter. It is a neutral, almost Earth-toned paintjob that looks as classy as any choice. The Graphite Metallic, however, is more striking. It is similar to Black, but is more bold and clean.

That way everyone has enough room for themselves to enjoy the journey. Now that you know more about the Terrain’s passenger volume, let’s take a look at where you can put your luggage.
Cargo Room
The 2019 GMC Terrain doesn’t just get you from point A to B. It can also help you take what you need. Behind the rear row of seats, you have up to 29.6 cubic feet of space for your gear and equipment. If you fold those seats down, you can have up to 63.3 cubic feet of space. GMC Yukon Wins a 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Honour
Dependability is a top need for families. Not only do family haulers need the space and power to get parents and kids everywhere they need to go, but having a vehicle with minimal needs for service is important. Fortunately there is the GMC Yukon. This vehicle recently won the 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability award in the full-size SUV segment, pushing the GMC brand as a whole into fifth place overall.
The J.D. Power Dependability study looks at three-year-old vehicles and evaluates them over 12 months. They are judged how every piece of the vehicle functions by looking at repair visits and maintenance needs in multiple areas. The study looks at aspects of the whole vehicle such as features and control functions; engine, transmission and other mechanical pieces; climate controls and effectiveness; entertainment and navigation systems; and handling and driving, just to name a few.
For this study, the 2013 GMC Yukon was put through its paces and performed admirably. The GMC Yukon wins a 2016 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability honour for having the fewest mechanical issues in its class. This full-size SUV also took above average reviews on the quality of its powertrain and the accessibility and usefulness of its features. That means that families enjoying a Yukon were able to take full advantage of interactive and user-friendly infotainment features like rear entertainment screens and a responsive infotainment system.
What Makes the GMC Yukon Great for Families?
With room for up to eight passengers and power for towing a boat or trailer besides, the 2013 GMC Yukon offers reliable, dependable power the family can take anywhere. This is the second year that the GMC Yukon has received the J.D. Power Dependability Award, and we anticipate that it will continue to hold a top pace in its class into the future. New SUV shoppers looking at the current 2016 GMC Yukon will be able to enjoy that same dependability.

Now that we’ve learned about the history of GM Canada, it’s time to look at where the company is today and what’s in store for the future. It’s amazing to see how a company started by an axe hand maker has become one of the biggest car brands in Canada. It will be interesting to see where GM Canada today goes from here.
By the time GM Canada celebrated its 30th anniversary, they had produced a million vehicles. Then in 1965, Canada signed the Canada-U.S. Automotive Products Trade Agreement (Autopact) that allowed GM Canada to increase its production capacity. Today GM of Canada is able to produce more than one million units in a single year. It is the ninth largest automobile market in the world. The GM Autoplex in Oshawa is now the center of GM of Canada’s manufacturing operations. The vehicle-manufacturing complex is the largest and most modern in North America. This company just continues to grow and create impressive vehicles.
Exciting changes continue to happen at GM Canada. On December 2, 2014, it was announced that David W. Paterson will become the company’s vice president of corporate and environmental affairs. General Motors of Canada Limited employs more than 9,000 people across the country and is a recognized leader of green manufacturing.
Craig Dunn Motor City is proud to be associated with such an impressive company that is constantly expanding and produces new and exciting vehicles. Check back here often to explore everything related to Chevy, Buick or GMC in Canada. Flashback Friday: 1955 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe
Flashback Friday: Chevy Camaro Celebrates 50 Years
Flashback Friday: GM Automotive Artistry and Design
Today’s Flashback Friday is something of a combination of a flashback and flash present, because we are going to look the history of GM automotive artistry and design. However, that wouldn’t be worth mentioning unless we also looked at some of the beautiful automotive architecture coming out of the General Motors design team today. If you’ve ever wondered who decides how a car looks, keep reading for a few snippets, and some great historical pictures.
Way back in the very first days of automobiles, there was a man named Harley Earl who had worked with his father first on building horse-drawn vehicles, and then with custom automobiles. From there, he became a part of a Cadillac dealership as a body designer. He eventually became the head of the Art and Color Section of General Motors in 1927. This also marked the first time an automaker like General Motors had ever invested in a specific design department focused on making gorgeous vehicles.Harley Earl was eventually promoted all the way to Vice President at GM in the design department. Under his leadership, some things that we take for granted, like changing model year vehicles, were basically invented. Earl also was the first person to encourage the production of a “concept car”, which was produced to see how the public would react to a design. Gorgeous vehicles like the concept Avenir (and, to a certain degree, all Buick vehicles that have borrowed concept clues from that vehicle) ow a debt this this first GM head of design.
The image above shows some of the earliest designers of GM vehicles. These men and women (pictured in 1947) paved new ground in how our modern vehicles were destined to look. Today, General Motors is still supporting the artistic dreams of people who want to create the latest and greatest new designs.
From the earliest days of automotive design, things like clay sculpting have been used to transform a designer’s dream into an engineer’s reality. Pictured above is a person hand-sculpting a clay-model interior of the Buick Avista Concept car. Harley Earl used this method and it is still implemented today.
Harley Earl is said to have created the idea of a concept car. In the above image he is showing off the 1951 GM Le Sabre show car to Michigan State Fair General Manager Jim Friel. With a concept car, auto manufacturers can show off a vehicle without turning immediately to mass production.
From the earliest days of the automotive industry, design has been acknowledged as one of the key reasons customers flock to a brand. While premium dependability and features will make drivers stay with a brand long-term, it is the elegant look of the 2016 Chevy Camaro, or the solid lines of the 2016 GMC Sierra truck that first attracts customers to a vehicle. If you have ever admired the lines of a vehicle, you may say thank you to Harley Earl, who revolutionized GM Automotive artistry and design.
