This week for Flashback Friday, we’re not flashing back very far at all. Last weekend was the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, and Chevy also had a milestone! Once again a Chevrolet vehicle was the official pace car for this historic race, and this year it was none other than the 2017 Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition. 2017 Chevy Camaro Pace Car for the 2016 Indy 500

That 2017 Chevy Camaro was the ninth Chevy Camaro to be the pace car for the Indy 500 and the 27th Chevrolet vehicle to have that honor since 1948. We don’t know a lot about the 50th Anniversary Edition of the new Camaro (which is scheduled to be released later this year), but we know that the 2017 Chevy Camaro pace car for the 2016 Indy 500 featured an Abalone White exterior with the Indianapolis wing-and-wheel logo on the side and “100th Running of the Indianapolis 500” on the doors.

What is a pace car at the Indianapolis 500?

Much as we love the look and the aerodynamic style of the Chevy Camaro, it doesn’t look like a traditional Indy car, and it’s not supposed to. The pace car has two roles: it leads the competing vehicles around the track for the Indy’s rolling start and, in the case of a caution period, the pace car will go out again to lead the vehicles in a slower route around the track.

This second job happens commonly if there is an accident and vehicles have to reduce speed to avoid crashing. Traditionally, the winner of the Indianapolis 500 (this year Alexander Rossi) will be given one of the year’s pace cars.

Chevy Ranks Highest in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Every year J.D. Power strives to give the most helpful and accurate information about vehicles on the market. It uses customer experience and data to create educated and informed conclusions. One of their most popular lists has it do with initial quality. Today we’re going to take a look at how Chevy ranks highest in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

In order to have the most accurate and easy-to-understand lists, J.D. Power narrows down their study to include four major vehicle categories: cars, SUVs, trucks and vans. After those four major categories, they narrow it down even more. The Malibu, Equinox, Silverado LD and Spark were all ranked highest in the respective segments for the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM. Chevrolet even has 10 models in the Top 3 positions, which is more than any other brand.

The 2015 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from more than 86,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2015 models year vehicles surveyed at 90 days of ownership. The study also includes a 233-question survey that manufacturers can use to quickly identify problems and drive improvement. This survey is beneficial is a whole range of ways. It helps shoppers find vehicles that are reliable and exciting to drive and also helps car makers strive to improve.

The Chevy Trax is an excellent small crossover. Powerful, well, equipped and stylish, we didn’t think it could get much better for those in the market for a small SUV, but it has! The Trax will now be available with a stylish Midnight Edition, which will bring a little intimidating pizzaz to the already engaging and fun form of the Trax.

2016 Chevy Trax Midnight Edition Release Date

The Midnight Edition on the 2016 Chevy Trax will go on sale in North America in February 2016. No news yet when or if this vehicle will be hitting our lot here in Portage La Prairie, but it’s always exciting to see new, bold vehicle models coming out in our Chevy vehicles. “Introduced just a year ago, the Trax has quickly become an important vehicle for Chevrolet, bringing in new, younger and more female buyers to the brand,” said Betsy Flegg, senior marketing manager for Chevrolet Crossovers in a recent press release. “The small SUV segment is the fastest growing in the industry and models such as the new Trax Midnight Edition provides customers an expressive option.”

Trax Midnight Edition Details

Based on the LTZ trim, the 2016 Trax Midnight Edition will come with black wheels, bezels, beltline molding, and door handles. The rear license plate holder will also be black. The external colour, natually, will be black. In the interior, the seats will feature gray accents, while the floor mats will have gray piping, to allow the dark interior to pop. Previous vehicles that have received Midnight Editions include the 2016 Chevy Silverado and the 2016 Chevy Colorado.

2016 Chevy Trax Specs

Each Chevy Trax offers the handling and maneuverability of a small car with the utility of an SUV, including up to 1360 litres of cargo space. It also features a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which can deliver up to 6.9 L/100km for highway driving and zippy acceleration. Each vehicle evaluated by Motor Trend for their Car of the Year award is assessed according to six basic categories: striking design, quality engineering, fuel efficiency, safe construction and features, buyer value, and how well it performs as intended. However, the top attraction for this excellent EV has to be its stunning driving range. The 2016 Chevy Cruze will be available in base L, LS, LT, and elite Premier trim levels, each offering different features and advantages. Check the table below for exact prices for these trims. Each Cruze will be outfitted with a 1.4L turbo engine outfitted with direct-injection technology and rated for 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The LS and LT are available with either standard manual or optional automatic transmission, while the L is available only as a manual, and the Premier can only be had with automatic. The manufacturer-estimated fuel consumption rating is 5.9 L/100km with highway driving.

These MSRP prices do not include a $1,600 destination freight charge or other available add-on features, like forward collision alerts or Intellibeam headlights, and may vary depending on location. These prices are generally down from the cost of the 2015 Chevy Cruze, with the new Cruze LT automatic starting at $520 than in the previous year.

2016 Chevy Malibu Release Date

Spring is a busy season for the automotive industry. There are various auto shows taking place, including the New York International Auto Show this April. Many vehicles will be revealed and on display for drivers and industry members to explore. One of these new models, is the next-generation Chevy Malibu. This new vehicle has many upgrades in terms of efficiency, connectivity and advanced safety features. The 2016 Chevy Equinox, which is produced at CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll and the Oshawa Assembly in Oshawa for world-wide distribution took the lead in the compact SUV segment, neck in next with its sister-vehicle the 2016 GMC Terrain. This means that, among compact sport utility vehicles, these two models experienced the fewest problems per 100 vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership. As soon as an Equinox or Terrain drives off the lot, it offers more reliability than other compact SUV models.

The J.D. Power 2016 Initial Quality Study was done by surveying more than 80,000 new car owners or lessees about their new 2016 model year vehicles.

This new exciting feature is called the Active Phone Cooling feature and it works when the car’s heating, ventilation and cooling system is on. Available this spring in Canada and across North America, this attractive and hard-working truck will likely be popular with hunters and everyone who likes the great outdoors.

Realtree Style with Silverado Capability

The Realtree Edition will be available on 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 trucks with crew cab body configurations. This model will sport black accents like blackout trim, a black Chevrolet bow tie emblem, off-road assist steps and 20-inch black wheels. It will also sport authentic Realtree camo graphics on the exterior and headrests embroidered with the Realtree logo, as well as other interior accents.

“Working with the team at Chevrolet on this new Realtree Edition Silverado really brought home to me just how important the right truck is for outdoor enthusiasts,” said Realtree Designer and President Bill Jordan in a recent Chevrolet press release. “You just don’t realize how much goes into building a true performance vehicle until you look behind the scenes.

Silverado Realtree Off-Roading Features

In addition to looking great, the 2016 Chevy Silverado Realtree Edition will also be perfectly capable off of the road. Outfitted with Rancho monotube shocks, a G80 automatic locking rear differential, an underbody shield, and Hill Descent Control, this truck will be able to tackle any kind of roads. Specialty all-terrain tires will also come standard on this edition.
