Participants will first make a paper Easter-egg basket, and then go on a hunt through the hangar and the displayed planes. Cost is $6, with children 2 and under free. Members also get free admission. Apple CarPlay uses Apple programs including Phone, Siri voice commands, Messages, Maps, Music and other third-party apps. How far can Chevy vehicles go on empty?

Last week we took a look at the humble beginnings of GM Canada featuring the McLaughlin family. This week we’re going to see what happened after they built those first 154 cars. Here are Craig Dunn Motor City we think it’s important to see where our brand came from. These things don’t just appear, they take years of hard work and dedication. This is how the impressive GM Canada reputation got its start.

A few years after the McLaughlin vehicles were initially released, they started gaining quite a following. The McLaughlin’s advertisers persuaded management to change the brand name from McLaughlin to Buick. They compromised and renamed the cars, McLaughlin-Buick. This increased their popularity because a Buick won the first race at the Indianapolis Speedway in the United States.

Eventually the McLaughlin’s partner, Durant, was kicked out of the Buick company, but he quickly rebounded by joining forces with Louis Chevrolet. By 1915, Durant had so many Chevy shares that he regained control of GM all together. The McLaughlin boys convinced Durant to give them the Chevy as well. The Chevy bodies were designed by Sam McLaughlin and the McLaughlin plant painted them. Soon, the McLaughlins’ Chevrolets were just as popular as the Chevrolet vehicles crafted in the United States. In 1918, GM management bought the business but allowed Sam and George McLaughlin to continue running it. With that, the became the first president and vice president of General Motors Canada. Sam remained president until 1945 and was still a chairman of the board until he died at the age of 100 in 1972.

GM Canada has a rich and exciting history with family right at the heart of the business. Through the years, GM Canada continued to expand and grow as a company. While the 2016 Buick Envision hasn’t even arrived at our dealership yet, we already have an estimated 2017 Buick Envision release date! While this has been very quiet, we have a first idea of when we can expect this excellent midsize SUV crossover for the 2017 model year. We’ve also learned more about the Buick Envision trim levels.

While the 2016 model should be arriving in our new Buick inventory any day now, the 2017 Buick Envision is anticipated sometime in fall of this year. We’re not anticipating many huge changes between the two model years. The 2016 Buick Envision will be a new model in North America, and comes loaded with tons of excellent technology and safety features.

Trim Levels on the Buick Envision in North America

In North America, the luxurious Envision is starting out with just two trim levels: Premium and Premium II. Both of these models will come loaded with luxury features, quiet-cabin technology, and excellent performance.

For the 2017 Buick Envision, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more trim levels, and a lot more flexibility on price. We’re not completely sure how these trims, features, and pricing will transfer to our Canadian models yet, but it looks like we may be able to look forward to the 2017 model being available in base Envision, Preferred, Essence, Premium, and Premium II levels. While those two top trims will carry over, the lower levels will offer SUV owners and busy families many of the safety and convenience features of the new Envision at a lower price.

Again, this is information for North America in general, not Canada or Manitoba specifically, but it looks like even the base trims will come with a rearview camera, Active Noise Cancellation technology, automatic climate control, heated front seats, remote start and rear parking assist, just to name a few of the top features.

It’s the big three-oh. Here at Craig Dunn, we celebrated our 30th anniversary last week with a barbecue for the whole community. However, the greatest joy that we have is in providing the very best Chevy, Buick and GMC vehicles and auto maintenance and repairs to all the communities in our area, from Brandon to Winnipeg and beyond. In honor of the Craig Dunn Motor City 30th Anniversary celebration, keep reading to learn a little more about the history of our dealership.

The Early Days of Craig Dunn

Craig Dunn Motor City began in 1986 when, after nine years of working in the car business in Brandon MB, Craig Dunn bought the Central Plains Pontiac dealership in Portage La Prairie. At that time the dealership was located on the corner of 18th Street and Saskatchewan Avenue (where the Mega Computer/MTS store is today) and had just ten employees. Just two years later, in 1988, the dealership moved to what was Garden Gate Restaurant (now closed) in between NAPA and CFRY.

Growth at Craig Dunn Motor City

Even with the new location, our dealership was not yet done growing, or moving! Craig Dunn Motor City acquired Edmondson Chev Olds in 1992 and moved into that facility that fall. Five years later in 1997, wanting to provide our customers with an even better variety and inventory of new and used vehicles, we built our current location on what was at the time farmland without even a road. The dealership was built in 1998.

Today, Craig Dunn Motor City has more than 100 cars in its new vehicle inventory and 46 great employees! Our growth is a testament to the high-quality service that we provide.

Every year J.D. Power strives to give the most helpful and accurate information about vehicles on the market. It uses customer experience and data to create educated and informed conclusions. One of their most popular lists has it do with initial quality. Today we’re going to take a look at how Chevy ranks highest in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

In order to have the most accurate and easy-to-understand lists, J.D. Power narrows down their study to include four major vehicle categories: cars, SUVs, trucks and vans. After those four major categories, they narrow it down even more. The Malibu, Equinox, Silverado LD and Spark were all ranked highest in the respective segments for the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM. Chevrolet even has 10 models in the Top 3 positions, which is more than any other brand.

The 2015 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from more than 86,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2015 models year vehicles surveyed at 90 days of ownership. The study also includes a 233-question survey that manufacturers can use to quickly identify problems and drive improvement. This survey is beneficial is a whole range of ways. It helps shoppers find vehicles that are reliable and exciting to drive and also helps car makers strive to improve.

Sometimes creating and maintaining a facility with zero landfill waste takes creative thinking and plenty of planning. One of the GM environmental goals for 2020 is to have 150 landfill-free sites around the world. This means a site where products are recycled, reused, or changed into energy. There are already four landfill-free plants in Canada. Two newer ones are the Woodstock facility in Ontario, and the Langley facility in Vancouver.

Changing Foam Packaging into Shoes

One of the ways that possible waste products are transformed into useful raw material is at the facilities at Toluca, Mexico. The facility collects a lot of foam packaging when parts and materials are delivered. This raw material, that might end up in a dump at other facilities, is collected, processed, and used to produce the soles of shoes.

Reusing Solvent Rags and Other Renewable Changes

Another change being worked on at the Ellesmere Port facility to it find ways to reuse the rags that wipe up solvent during the car assembly process. Being able to wash or process the rag in some way would allow them to be completely reusable. In addition to being the right thing to do, recycling and reusing materials on a large scale can actually allow the company to be more efficient and make use of all resources.

When you think of Buick, maybe the first thing that springs to mind is smooth driving, a spacious interior, and top luxury features like you would see in the upcoming 2016 Buick Envision. But did you know that Buick has a history of taking significant honors on the race track? For this Flashback Friday we’re going to take a look at the impressive Buick early racing heritage and the dedication to top performance that the brand has maintained to this day.

Founded in 1899 by David Buick, the company wasted no time developing some of the best vehicles on the road. By the time the Buick Motor Company teamed up with R. S. McLaughlin to branch the brand into Canada in 1907, they were the most-sold brand in North America.

Buick Race Cars at the Indy

Just a couple years later in 1909, a Buick race car won at the first race at the 2.5-mile (4 km) Indianapolis Motor Speedway, two years before the first Indianapolis 500. Driven by Bob Burnam (and averaging more than 85 kilometres per hour), that Buick raced car (pictured to the right) won the Prest-O-Lite Trophy and was one of only nine vehicles that successfully completed the race. A third of them were Buicks.

Buick 60 Special Bug of 1910

Just few years later the art of racing had been transformed. The 1910 Buick 60 Special “Bug” (pictured at the top of this post) had a giant 10.2-litre four-cylinder engine and an aluminum body designed for optimal speed (though the blunted nosecone may have been more for style than because of any scientific principles of aerodynamic design). Two 60 Specials were built: one for Bob Burnam and a second for Louis Chevrolet, who would found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in 1911.

In 1909 Bob Burnam won at less than 100 kilometres per hour. In 1911, he broke a speed record with the Buick 60 Special Bug averaging just shy of 150 kilometers per hour (91 miles per hour).

Today, performance optimized vehicles like the GS model of the 2016 Buick Regal can reach speeds of more than 240 kilometres per hour, and maintain a quiet, comfortable cabin with excellent handling at the same time. A more powerful 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 will also be available which offers over 4,200 kilograms of trailering capacity.

Chevy Vehicles with an Available Android Auto Update

Most Chevy vehicles of the 2016 model year that came with the eight-inch MyLink system will be able to update to Android Auto. Vehicles with the seven-inch screen were already equipped with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. New 2016 model year vehicles arriving at Craig Dunn in the coming months will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay already installed.

Android Auto Availability on Buick

Current Canadian owners of a 2016 Buick Regal or 2016 Buick LaCrosse with an eight-inch IntelliLink system should qualify for the Android Auto update. Select 2015 models may also be eligible. If your vehicle can be updated, you will be contacted with that information, and can have the update done at a certified Buick dealer. New 2017 models like the 2017 LaCrosse will come equipped with compatibility to both systems.

GMC Android Auto Updates

The 2016 GMC Canyon, Sierra, and Yukon equipped with the eight-inch touchscreen may be updated in Canada to be compatible with Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. This update should take about 30 minutes at an official GMC dealer. The new 2017 GMC Acadia will come with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay pre-installed in models with IntelliLink.
